Island Recreation Events Announced for This Summer

A wildflower tour of Mackinac Island led by local botanist Trish Martin Tuesday, May 27, will begin a summer schedule of activities planned by the Mackinac Island Recreation Department. The tour will begin at Bogan Lane Inn at 1 p.m. Bogan Lane is east of Marquette Park and the Island House.

The tour is free and no reservations are necessary. Appropriate walking shoes are suggested.

Horseback riding lessons for 4-H Club members will begin Tuesday, June 10. Call 847-3853 for more information on the lessons and on upcoming 4-H Club archery and arts and nature in the park events, which will be announced at a later date.

People of all ages are invited to enjoy outdoor fun, including inflatable bouncing cages, at Great Turtle Park, starting at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 6.

A volleyball camp for youths with John Knuth, volleyball coach for Marysville High School, will take place Wednesday, July 9, through Friday, July 11.

Recreation Director Leanne Brodeur is in the process of setting up a soccer camp in July or August.

A basketball camp is scheduled with Sam Cornett, basketball coach for South Haven Public Schools, Wednesday, August 13, through Friday, August 15.
