Han-shan Video Premiers on Island August 26

Jim Lenfestey will host Wednesday, August 26, "An Evening with Cold Mountain," the island premier of the video, "Han-shan," and a talk about his trip to visit the sites of the great poets of ancient China.

The poetic documentary won "Best of Fest" at the 2009 Minneapolis and St. Paul International Film Festival and chronicles Mr. Lenfestey’s 2006 trip to China with videographer Mike Hazard and Buddhist guide and translator Bill Porter to visit sites important to the great poets of ancient China. The video, said Mr. Lenfestey, includes the poet most beloved in America, Han-shan, whose name means "Cold Mountain."

The group traveled by van, train, and foot to bring back stories. The 25-minute video includes scenes of the remote cave where Han-shan spent the last years of his life and where the current hermit of Cold Mountain served them lunch.

The video features original music and animation, plus appearances from Gary Snyder, Burton Watson, and Bill Porter, the translators most responsible for popularizing Hanshan in America, as well as Mr. Lenfestey as poet-pilgrim.

The event will begin at 8 p.m. at the Theater at Mission Point Resort. It is free and open to the public.
