Oil Pipeline Report Is Focus Of Forum at Community Hall

A public forum on the state’s task force report on the Enbridge petroleum pipeline in the Straits of Mackinac will be Wednesday, August 12, at Community Hall on Market Street. A panel will present highlights of the report and lead a community discussion about the proposals and next steps.

Sponsored by the Mackinac Island Community Foundation, the session is open to the public and will be held from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The task force was convened last year by Governor Rick Snyder and was led by Attorney General Bill Schuette and Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Director Dan Wyant. The 80-page report made recommendations for future planning, maintenance, and operations of the 62-year-old Line 5 that runs under the Straits of Mackinac.
