Nicholas Haan

Nicholas Haan Nicholas Haan Nicholas Vernon Jacob Haan, 56, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017.

He was born May 14, 1961, to Vernon and Joyce (nee Finch) Haan in Baltimore, Maryland, the youngest of three children.

Mr. Haan had a way of touching the lives of everyone he came into contact with, whether it was the students he taught during his 25-year career as a teacher at Stevenson High School, the community of Silver Lake, Wisconsin, or his extended life on Mackinac Island as owner of Haan’s 1830 Inn.

He had a persona that was larger than life, friends said, from his infectious laugh to his Nick-isms, his favorite being: “Every day is a treat.” He was full of love and was a gentle giant, family members said.

He is survived by two children and their families, Shannon and Lucas Westblade and Jacob Andrew Nicholas Haan; a grandson, Gideon Westblade; his parents, Vernon and Joyce Haan; two brothers, David Haan and Bradley Haan; his girlfriend, Patty Hovel, and his loving and energetic dog, Scout.

Services were held Thursday, August 3, at 11 a.m. at Ste. Anne’s Catholic Church on Mackinac Island.

Services will also be held Sunday, August 6, at 2 p.m. at Lake Geneva Historical Museum in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
