Bradley McCallum Resigns as HDC Chair, Arts Council President

Bradley McCallum has resigned his appointment as chair of the Mackinac Island Historic District Commission, as he will be leaving the Island for a new position in Whitefish, Montana, with Averill Hospitality. Mr. McCallum has served as the managing director of Mission Point Resort since July 2012, becoming involved in historic preservation on Mackinac Island and as a board member of the Michigan Historic Preservation Network. During the meeting of the commission, Tuesday, May 8, his fellow board members expressed their regret about his departure, and thanked him for his service to the commission and the community.

“We will be missing you,” Commissioner Lorna Straus said.

The decision to leave Mission Point and Mackinac Island was unexpected, according to Mr. Mc- Callum. He will leave later this month, and his resignation from the HDC is effective Wednesday, May 9.

“The past years have been a rich and rewarding experience, and I have enjoyed serving with each of you… this place and each of you will always hold a place of special affection in my heart,” he wrote in a letter to the commissioners.

He added that the commission has done good work together, and he believes the Island is a better place for it.

Mr. McCallum also resigned from his position as president of the Mackinac Arts Council.
