Mackinac Island Robotics Part of Winning Alliance at LSSU Event

(Mackinac Island Public School photograph) The Mackinac Island Great Lakers Robotics Team 5878 was part of the alliance that won the District Championship at Lake Superior State University (LSSU) in Sault Ste. Marie Saturday, April 7. While the Island team brought home a trophy and a new banner to mark the achievement, the team only scored 39 points at the event. The LSSU score is added to their performance at Gaylord earlier in the season for a total of 55 points this season, which is 10 points short of the requirement to compete the State Championship.

The Deceivers of Brimley, team 4392, took the top spot at the competition, earning 45 points for an overall season score of 115 points. The team will advance to the state championship, which will be held this week.

Other local robotics teams also competed in the district event at LSSU.

The Yooper Troopers of Les Cheneaux Community Schools in Cedarville, team 4988, placed 16th with 28 points. The St. Ignace S.H.I.E.L.D. team 5213 placed 17th with 25 points. Raider Robotics of DeTour, team 5072, placed 24th with 18 points. The Rudyard Nerf Herders, team 5709, placed 26th with 16 points. The Purple People Eaters of Pickford, team 5175, placed 28th with 13 points.
