Big Mac Shoreline Spring Scenic Bike Tour Will Take Place This Weekend

The Big Mac Shoreline Spring Scenic Bike Tour and Ride will be Saturday, June 9, and Sunday, June 10. Since the Mackinac Bridge Authority no longer allows cycling events, the tour now includes a ride around Mackinac Island on M-185 on Sunday morning.

The Saturday ride will offer 25- mile, 50-mile, 70-mile, and 85-mile routes between Mackinaw City and Harbor Springs. The scenic tour travels along the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Sunday participants will ferry across the Straits of Mackinac to ride M-185.

The day one registration fee is $22 per person ($27 after the registration deadline through the day of the tour). There is no charge for children riding in approved child bike carrier, but children must be registered. Cost for the ride around Mackinac Island on Sunday is $35 for adults and $27 for children younger than 12. The Island ride is limited to the first 150 registrations and is only offered to registered cyclists in the Saturday ride.

Saturday’s tour will begin and end at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mackinaw City.

Registration and packet pickup will be Friday, June 8, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Mackinaw City Chamber of Commerce office at 707 North Huron Avenue in Mackinaw City across from the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse.

For the Saturday ride, registration and packet pickup is at St. Anthony Catholic Church. The 85-mile riders are encouraged to depart by 7 a.m. All other riders should depart by 9 a.m. A free luncheon for all registered Saturday participants will be offered from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Mackinac Island ride on Sunday will require participants to ride either Star Line or Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry to Mackinac Island on the 7:30 a.m. boat, as the ride will begin at 8:30 a.m. Participants should arrive to the ferry dock 15 to 20 minutes early to obtain their boarding pass. Participants will line up at Windermere Point at 8:15 a.m., two by two, facing northeast toward Main Street. They will then ride through downtown and continue around the perimeter of the Island. Riders will then return to the starting location to sign out and participate in a group photograph.

The event is sponsored by the Mackinaw City Chamber of Commerce.
