Reader Relies on Town Crier To Be Informed on Issues

To the Editor:

I couldn’t disagree more with the letter in the September 18, 2018 issue: “Prefer the Town Crier Without Politics.” I commend the Town Crier for joining newspapers across the country declaring their dedication to journalism and decrying the president’s baseless attacks on our free press. I rely on the Town Crier to keep me informed about the place I’ve been visiting for 46 years, the place where my family has been a part of the community for 122 years. While I may live 2,000 miles away, I read every issue cover-to-cover. The Town Crier tells me about issues surrounding Line 5, historical preservation, explosive tourism, and affordable housing, plus who won the bridge game each week. All of these issues, and more, have elements of politics in them. An attack on journalism hurts the mission of every news organization, from the Town Crier to the Los Angeles Times (my hometown paper).

Please keep asserting the rights of the free press. Our country needs you.
